"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." - Cicero - 55 BC

Every American should read this article from the leading Russian newspaper, Pravda. I think its stunning.

American capitalism gone with a whimper

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.
Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.
First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.
Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.
The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.
These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?

These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters.

Barack Obama's command that GM's (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of "pure" free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.
So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a "bold" move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK's Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our "wise" Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.
Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper...but a "freeman" whimper.
So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set "fair" maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.
The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.
The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

Here is Henry fooling around at his graduation. The other kids loved it by their expressions, his parents did not. This was shown during Henry's part. Note the reference to Michigan, who he does not care for much.

Miss Kim

Henry graduated from his p-k class today and they had a little ceremony tonight. He was not a good boy during his part of the event, I'm really not sure why he acted up during it because he's usually pretty good.

I am really proud of Henry and his reading. He is reading chapter books now and every night I am just amazed at how well he can read. I imagine he'll be far ahead of a lot of the kids in his kindergarten class next year. Sure, he'll be one of the older kids but that doesn't take away the fact that he's a great reader. His teachers say he is one of the best in his class now. Here's a typical page that my boy is reading:

"My pet kitten is lost," says Jack.
"Can you get him back?"
"Yes, I can," I say. "Where did you last see him?"
"At the vet," says Jack, "but he is not there now."

Jack and his new girlfriend Maggie. Our house from the water. It's the red house just above the pontoon boat.

Another photo of our house. It's the one right in the middle, the red one.

Here is Henry's nearly completed room. Bunk bed is up but need to finish the molding and closet.

Jackie and Colby playing on the slip and slide.

Before...
and after. I'm really not sure what to say about the lakehouse floors except that they are done. I worked 8 hours Friday, a lot of Saturday and finished up Sunday around 2:00. That's a lot of working on a weekend I was hoping to enjoy our new house.
We are getting new kitchen cabinets built and beyond that we really don't have a big project. I'll have to do something with our small kitchen, probably tile, prior to the new cabinets being installed. Then I'm going to enjoy the house this summer.
We met a lot of the new neighbors this weekend. Everyone is very nice as you can imagine. Lots of older folks who own the homes nearby but their kids are my age and their kids are our kids age which is perfect. Henry has a new friend Conner who is two doors down and 6. Jack has a 2 year old friend Colby.
You really couldn't ask for a better Memorial Day, hot and dry weather. I just wish I could have enjoyed it a bit more. There's always next weekend...

Well, we managed to cram everything into the truck and uhaul. And I mean cram. Sarah's friend Liz wanted to catch a ride down to the lake where she was going to meet someone for a ride to PA this weekend and unfortunately that isn't going to work unless she wants to lay on a mattress in the uhaul for an hour and a half.

I'm not sure what will happen to big SUVs once the Obama fuel standards become effective but I doubt they will be building them anymore. We will all pretty much be driving around in little tiny clown cars in the future to meet these stringent standards. I'm sure that will improve highway safety a lot.

flip flop?

Barack Obama inherited a set of national-security policies that he rejected during the campaign but now embraces as president. This is a stunning and welcome about-face.

For example, President Obama kept George W. Bush's military tribunals for terror detainees after calling them an "enormous failure" and a "legal black hole." His campaign claimed last summer that "court systems . . . are capable of convicting terrorists." Upon entering office, he found out they aren't.

He insisted in an interview with NBC in 2007 that Congress mandate "consequences" for "a failure to meet various benchmarks and milestones" on aid to Iraq. Earlier this month he fought off legislatively mandated benchmarks in the $97 billion funding bill for Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Obama agreed on April 23 to American Civil Liberties Union demands to release investigative photos of detainee abuse. Now's he reversed himself. Pentagon officials apparently convinced him that releasing the photos would increase the risk to U.S. troops and civilian personnel.

Throughout his presidential campaign, Mr. Obama excoriated Mr. Bush's counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq, insisting it could not succeed. Earlier this year, facing increasing violence in Afghanistan, Mr. Obama rejected warnings of a "quagmire" and ordered more troops to that country. He isn't calling it a "surge" but that's what it is. He is applying in Afghanistan the counterinsurgency strategy Mr. Bush used in Iraq.

As a candidate, Mr. Obama promised to end the Iraq war by withdrawing all troops by March 2009. As president, he set a slower pace of drawdown. He has also said he will leave as many as 50,000 Americans troops there.

These reversals are both praiseworthy and evidence that, when it comes to national security, being briefed on terror threats as president is a lot different than placating MoveOn.org and Code Pink activists as a candidate. The realities of governing trump the realities of campaigning.

We are all set for move-in day on Friday. U-haul is rented, bunk bed has been picked up, washer and dryer were delivered yesterday, mattresses will get picked up tomorrow along with the nail gun for the final phase of the wood floor. Sarah has spent a million dollars on new stuff for the place, sheets, comforters, etc. We will drop the kids off at school at 7:30 a.m. and head to the lake for the unload. I'm going to start on the floors and Sarah will need to clean the place up a bit, its a construction zone right now. We'll throw all the construction debris in the trailer and Sarah will drive it to a dump in Columbus Friday afternoon. She will return on Saturday morning with the boys. Sounds like a plan to me.

My little helpers.

Our great view never gets old. The stain is one the walls in the one bedroom. Note the area around the floor where trim will go.
The first fire at the lakehouse.

After, and...

before.

Bedroom #3 is done.

Bedrooms are done, some of the hall is too. The great room is somewhat level and I'm going to start on that on Friday if all goes as planned. That's move-in day and I need to convince Sarah that she can drive the truck and trailer back to Cbus after we unload.

It got really cold at the lakehouse on Sunday night. Hence the photo of the first fire in our fireplace. Everyone is so nice down there, a neighbor offered to let me sleep in his place because it was heated. I declined but it was nice.

Here are some photos from today's Founders Day parade in New Albany. As you can see, I was popular with Henry and Sebastian because I had a bag of candy.
I'm headed to the lakehouse tomorrow morning fairly early to finish the bedrooms up and start on the great room. I'm going to spend the night down there although it looks like a cold one. I may have to burn a fire to stay warm!

Call me for all your new flooring needs. But I'll have to charge you an eventual knee replacement charge. It's hell getting old. I got the master bedroom done and 1/2 of bedroom number 2. I'm headed back on Sunday to hopefully finish up the bedrooms and start on the great room. I really don't think I'll be done by move in day Friday but we can probably still get our stuff in and be okay for a couple weeks.

I'm headed down to the lake tomorrow after work to start laying the wood floor. I have zero confidence that this is going to turn out great because of the uneven floor. It's complicated by the fact that I believe the tiles that were under the carpet are asbestos, which means that I really can't just rip them up and install a new subfloor. So I'm going to make it as level as I can and just lay the wood. And hope it turns out good enough to last 25 years.

This photo shows me at work on the saw. It also shows why its so difficult to work on a sunny day.

Here are the new walls and ceiling. Picture doesn't do them justice. Once I get some stain or clearcoat on them, they will look great.

Long week. Chicago was fine, not sure I got a lot out of the wind conference though. I took today off again in my quest to get the cabin done by Memorial Day. Today's journey took me to Hamden Ohio, about an hour and 45 from the house, to pick up some pine paneling in the truck plus a u-haul trailer. It's really nice wood, tongue and groove, 8 feet long and about 8 inches wide, 3/4 inch thick. Then I ran it down to the lake where Mike and I unloaded it. Mike is the guy I hired to help me on some projects. He's moving some electrical around and is still down there, hopefully getting a lot done. I had to be back by 5:45 for a soccer game; we have tee ball practice at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow and then another soccer game at 11:30.

If its nice, we're going to go to the lake on Sunday for Mother's Day. I can do some work in the house and maybe we can move some dirt around on our planned garden. Here are some photos of the somewhat gutted lakehouse.

Party was great, had more people then ever before. We lucked out on the weather. I golfed today and won the Memorial Cup, one of three golf trophies a group of guys play for every year. But it was a rough day, 5 1/2 hours on the course because we were playing behind some slow golfers. That's why I don't like to golf on weekends, it takes up pretty much the whole day.

I'm off to Chicago tomorrow until Wednesday.

Seems like forever since I have posted anything but I've been pretty busy. It's hard to believe its May already. Today is our 5th annual Kentucky Derby party and we are expecting 60 adults and 25 kids plus 2 babysitters. The work on the lakehouse continues. All the carpet, padding, nails and staples are up but there's a slight problem, our floor is no where near flat. So I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do with the wood floor at this point. I hired a guy to rip out the walls and ceilings and install new ones, not because I can't do it but because I am running out of time to get it done before we move in prior to Memorial Day. Now I'm up against it in getting the new knotty pine boards ordered and getting them down to Seneca Lake and getting the floors in before we can move anything in. Did I mention that I can't believe its May 2 already? Hopefully, once the floors, walls and ceilings are done I can take projects as they come down there.
Today is also Henry's first tee ball practice although I'm having a tough time believing they will actually have it. I almost built an ark last evening and there is no way the fields are dry enough to play. He will probably play his soccer game this morning though, the weather forecast has improved to no rain today which is better than last night.
I'm heading to Chicago on Monday for a American Wind Energy Association conference. I thought about canceling because of the flu thing but it looks like I'm going. Monday night is a Cubs game and Tuesday Ohio is hosting a reception and hopefully I'll be learning a lot about wind energy in between. I'm sad that I'll miss a soccer game and baseball practice but the Governor is attending the Ohio reception so that caused me an extra night in town.
