I'm off to Pinehurst for a few days. I'll be back on Friday.

Saturday we went to Cedar Point. Henry loved the Bumper Cars. Here is a hodge podge of photos from the Point. We stayed overnight for the third year; its definitely the way to go if you are going to stay late.

Friday night we put up the big screen on the back of our house and showed "Happy Feet" to the kids. By the end of the night, five other neighborhood kids had joined the party.

This is the Spinster's Cottage that we stayed in.

We stayed in a castle last night. Well, in a cottage next to a castle down in the Hocking Hills area. It was neat and I'd like to go back when the kids are older. Today on Father's Day we hiked to Ash Cave, a 1/4 mile on a paved path, perfect when Sarah had Jack in the Bjorn. Here are some photos from the past two days. More photos later, Blogger is slow today.

Here is Jack with a bit of a smile. And a lot of drool. I stayed home with him today, he had a fever yesterday so wasn't allowed back in daycare for 24 hours.
Here's Henry on "water day". They do this every Thursday at daycare, run the sprinklers, etc. Notice his new Croc's on his feet, $30 shoes that I hope Jack will wear someday.

Here is a photo of Henry drawing on the board he got last Christmas. He just noticed it and we happened to just get some erasable pens. As you can see, he drew an H, I, T and an S. I'm not sure what the other couple things are but I know that spells HITS and Henry can certainly do that with a baseball. And no, I did not tell him which letters to spell, those were just the ones he said he knows.
I know he knows all his letters but he's just learning to write them. I'm very proud of Henry, he knows his phone number, his address, letters and can count pretty high. He knows all the stuff that is expected of him for kindergarten and he still has two more years of pre-school because of his late birthday. We'll probably look around for some pre-K class next year around this time; he will probably be close to ready if not ready for kindergarten and a more structured class might be good for him.

Today is our anniversary. I got Sarah some Morton steak knives. Nothing says I love you like a set of knives. Sure, I could have gotten her some flowers but she was at the Statehouse all day and I knew she wouldn't get them.

We're also going to Hocking Hills on Saturday with the boys. We're staying near a castle in a little village of cottages. It's only one night; Friday night Sarah is going down to Cinci to party with her college friends.

I'm in Columbus again this week with hopefully no traveling. Illinois is kinda stuck in overtime session and there hasn't been a reason to go over yet. But that day is coming.

Last Friday night Henry and I went down to the Reds game, the first of what I hope to be many trips to the ballpark. He is starting to like baseball, and of course he's a great hitter already.

Our summer is chock full of plans already. Next weekend we are going to Cedar Point for a day and night. We're also going to the beach for a week, Traverse City for a few days, Put-in-Bay for two nights, Cincinnati with the neighbors, Buck Lake for 4 or 5 days, Pittsburgh for a baseball game. Should be another fun summer.

Sorry for no photos. I haven't seen the camera since last weekend; Sarah must have it somewhere.

Business travel can be fun when you are going to new cool places. But not when you are traveling to Springfield, IL every week, getting up at 5:00 a.m. to catch a flight. I'm about tapped out on this stuff and the Illinois legislature just went into overtime session with days scheduled every weekday of June. Great.

So last week I was in Springfield, but just for one night. I came back on Wednesday then Thursday drove to Cincinnati for a fundraiser that night. The fundraiser was at Great American Ballpark and we left early to go to McCormick and Schmicks. Question: If you are paying $36 for a piece of salmon, shouldn't you at least get your water glass filled up one time during dinner?

Friday I golfed at a friend's country club then Sarah and the boys met me and we went to a Reds game. We sat right behind home plate and it was fun. We stayed at the Hilton Netherlands and they gave us a big suite; Henry ended up watching the fireworks show after the game from our bathroom window.

Saturday we got up and went to the Cincinnati Zoo. It was nice but hilly, it's tough to push a stroller up and down hills. Then we came back and I had one dream, sleep in until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. It almost happened.

The rest of the weekend was mostly yard work. And Sarah did most of it. On Labor Day I smoked a pork butt for 7 hours. It was my first one and turned out pretty good but probably needed a little more time in the smoker but its hard to maintain a steady 250 degrees using charcoal. I ended up finishing it on the grill to get it to the correct temperature.

I was in town on Tuesday and Wednesday, busy with Ohio legislative stuff, before leaving for Springfield early Thursday morning. My alarm rang at 5:00 a.m. Friday morning and I returned home and went to the Memorial golf tournament. I'm seldom in one million dollar house let alone two in one day. A day of golf awaits me today and tomorrow I may take Henry back to Muirfield. I have a parking pass so it might be fun.
