Sunny FL

So far so good on the trip.  We haven't had perfect weather but it hasn't been too bad.  Fishing was a success yesterday and we had a beautiful day.  Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy than sunny the rest of our time here.

Well, we are off to (hopefully) sunny Florida. That's not to say I won't throw up a blog post here and there before we return next Friday.

Here is the bird living underneath our deck this spring. We are replacing the deck in a couple months so he will have to find a new place to live.

Here is the pocket door that Mike finished after I left yesterday. The frame is only a one by one and I think we may need to beef it up a bit.

Lots of work done at the lake on Sunday and Monday. I put about 7 hours in yesterday and got most of the basement bedroom walls covered in pine board. I actually ran out of the boards so I'll have to make a run to the lumber yard. I also finished insulating the basement so we are ready to put up walls. DirecTV was installed this morning then Mike and I worked this afternoon a bit on the 4th bedroom wall with pocket door and he said he finished up after I left. Henry's soccer practice was canceled but it was still nice to get home and see everyone.
This is a busy week before we leave for Florida. Tomorrow night is our belated Mardi Gras party for legislative staff then Wednesday we'll have to pack.

Weekend

Nothing much going on after a fun St. Patricks Day and first day of NCAA tournament.  I hosted the grand opening of our new office yesterday and had a lot of colleagues stop by.  Today is a noon fundraiser and then the weekend begins.  Tomorrow is Henry's first soccer practice and it looks like I'm going to the lake on Sunday to work then the satellite tv is being hooked up Monday morning.

I still don't have internet in my office and that's frustrating.  It's hard to get work done when you can't access the web. I'm not sure what we did 15 years ago.

We leave for Florida on Thursday.  Hopefully the bill I've been working on for the last few months will be voted out of the House next week prior to us leaving.

This week: Started out slow today but may pick up tomorrow. Hopefully the IT guys will get my phone, internet and cable all working tomorrow in my new office. And the bill I've been working on for a few months might be voted on in the House, here's hoping. Thursday I'm hosting some colleagues in my office for lunch and basketball and I'm not sure what I'm doing on Friday. I have a lunch fundraiser than I might go down to the lake and work. Henry's soccer practice was canceled tonight because of soggy fields but he has practice on Saturday. We leave for Florida next Thursday so I'd like to get some work in at the lake before then.

Lots and lots of work done today. Interior window in basement bedroom, check. Insulation and Dur-Rock over fireplace in preparation for stone, check. Built in shelves behind bar (not built yet), check. I know it doesn't sound like much but everything takes time on these projects. I'm having a lot of fun but its much easier with two guys instead of one so thanks Jim and of course Mike who I'm paying to help out. I'm anxious to get the stone up on the fireplace, I know it will be the signature thing of the basement.

Heading to the CBJ hockey game tonight with the family. Only our second game of the year I think. We could probably go to more games but its not always easy on schools nights. And we never buy tickets, the ones we are using tonight are $75 each and they are probably the cheapest ones we've ever had.

I'm off to the lake tomorrow to work. It was a successful week; my amendment was approved in committee on Wednesday although I had to stand up and briefly explain it, something I wasn't expecting.

Henry's last bb game is Saturday and he has his first soccer practice on Monday. I'm going back to the lake next Friday too because Directv is installing our service.

Framing is completed. Fireplace is taking shape. I'm happy. This might get done by Memorial Day after all.

Here is Henry's basketball team. As you can see, he's not the biggest kid on the team but he's still one of the best!

Life updates: Sarah is in Atlanta for an AT&T class of some kind and gets home tonight. The boys were great last night. Henry has a basketball game tomorrow morning then I'm headed to the lake for the day to work. The furniture guys are delivering my new office furniture on Monday and Tuesday our IT guys come down to get everything hooked up. Wednesday I have a big issue up in the General Assembly and I'm taking the day off on Friday to meet a former State Rep friend who's offered to help work at the lake.

With a little luck and speed, we'll have all the basement framed in and we can start putting up some of the pine walls in areas that can be worked on. The fireplace presents some issues, we are really going to have to engineer it so that the heavy barn beam mantle doesn't fall down. We are also putting in a pocket door and building two bed frames besides building the bar. I'm hopeful that those won't be too tough. I have to bid out a new composite deck and the tile job which isn't going to be cheap. Ceramic tile itself can be had for a buck a sq. foot but I'm a bit worried what the installer is going to quote me. I guess that's why you get more than one quote.

Got some work done at the lake today, even with a visit to the doctor for another ear infection with Jack. I swear he is going to have to get tubes at this rate. The photo up top is the newly lined fireplace with the stone that we are going to put up around it. The bottom one is what Mike and I got done today, finishing framing the right side of the fireplace and the wall next to the new door. We are almost done framing; I might be able to finish it this weekend and then we are on to installing the pine on the walls.
